Worn On: 12/21/24 // Kansas city, MO

the commentary

The second I saw the trim on this coat, I recognized it as a piece by Charlotte Simone. True to Taylor’s style pillars of repetition and indie designers, you might recognize elements from this coat to when she wore a similarly voluminous coat (that time in black) by this London-based designer (who focuses on sustainability and small-scale production) in December 2023 while attending the premiere of Poor Things

In that caption last year I had noted: “There’s a certain, ‘I killed a man just to walk on his grave in my heels’ energy to this look that I equal parts admire and fear.” And perhaps that’s just the energy of a good Charlotte Simone coat as I think this (and a certain glam Martha May Whovier energy) also holds true to this Chiefs-coloured wintry outfit outing.

At each game I’ll reiterate Taylor’s three style pillars when it comes to her football observation fashion (vintage, sentimental accessories, women/locally-owned businesses). Here, Taylor turns to a brand that she has in the past - Tod’s.

Taylor has carried many bags and worn a number of shoes by Tod’s over the years. The earliest I’ve catalogued is 2013. But context, as always, is everything. I imagine that Taylor is tapping into that second pillar (sentimental accessories) given the mirrored ’T’ charms on either side of the bag. If I were to guess, that feels like a nod to “TnT” (Taylor and Travis).

A pair of patterned tights (especially when paired with red) have always felt very ‘holiday’ and wintry to me. This particular pair is one that Taylor has had in her closet for awhile. They last made an appearance when she was doing press for “Christmas Tree Farm” back in 2021.

Given the statement of the rest of her outfit (the fuzzy bucket hat, faux fur coat, patterned tights), I think going simple and understated with the boots was the right call and finisher to the ‘fit. In this case, a pointed pair of Manolos.
